‘Caring Caretaker’ back on the streets thumbnailColeraine’s ‘Caring Caretaker’ - aka Davy Boyle - expects to surpass raising £500,000 for charities during this year’s Christmas sit-out in front of Coleraine Town Hall. The sit-out starts next Friday.

IT'S hard to believe, but the Caring Caretaker's Christmas sit-out begins next Friday (December 2).
As much a part of Christmas as the switching on of the lights or late night shopping, Davy Boyle's charity fundraiser has garnered thousands of pounds for charity over the years.
In fact, the former Town Hall caretaker stands just £7,000 short of reaching his incredible target of raising half a million pounds for charities since he started two decades ago.
It's a staggering statistic - as is the numbers of good causes the big man has helped by sitting out in all kinds of weather in front of Coleraine Town Hall.
He's even defied ill health, including a heart scare, to continue with his charity crusade.
Whisper it quietly, but it might even be that he enjoys sitting out in sub-zero temperatures - just so long as he is chatting to folk and they in turn are dropping cash into his churn.
“I'm looking forward to starting my sit-out next Friday," admitted the football-loving grandfather.
“I have some volunteers helping me out various days but I will be there as much as I can in the run-up to Christmas.
Weather
“Hopefully the weather will be kind but whatever it does we'll be there, trying to raise money for this year's charities," he added.
