Coleraine stretch lead at top of Section Two

Thursday, 17 November 2016

COLERAINE are now three points clear at the top of the Kukri Ulster Rugby Championship, Section 2, after a solid performance away to Academy on Saturday.
The Cookstown sponsored Bannsiders secured four points on the day whilst main rivals CIYMS lost out to Limavady by one point. The result sees Coleraine move three points clear of CI with Limavady, Academy and Larne in close contention.
This weekend, Coleraine travel to Larne in the league and they will be keen to cement the lead prior to the semi-final of the Junior Cup away to Omagh the following week.
Speaking after the game, Coleraine head coach, Richard Boyd, said: "I am pleased to get another important win away from home and delighted to concede no points for the second week in a row.
“Academy has not been a happy haunting ground for us in previous seasons and they have had a solid start to their season so we were expecting a really tough encounter.
“I think the players deserve a lot of credit today as we matched them physically and our defence was impressive throughout. I thought the team showed real maturity and discipline to handle the situation and to play as well as they did.
“Academy never really threatened to score throughout the match which was really pleasing and they looked like they were more intent in stopping us play than trying to win.
